Sjors SmitHanna-Lee Daled and Jesse van Epenhuijsen will show new works inspired by the space in- and around Broedplaats BOUW.

The exhibition is an inquiry on notions of change in public space. It doesn't just display everyday life but reflects on urgent realities based on non-fictional situations and sites. It showcases new works of all three artists.

They all set out and used walking as an investigative method to explore the surrounding space of the gallery. This resulted in a dynamic presentation where a multitude of spatial arrangements came together as a whole. It provokes a dialogue to look and walk in places you normally would pass by.

19-4 until 24-4: 12:00 - 18:00
Opening 23-4: 17:00 - 22:00

Spatial Balance

Bij Broedplaats Bouw

Presentation of the interactive installation: Spatial Balance by Bob Waardenburg

Another lockdown, another work done. This time the work needs people to make it ring. As does the artist!

Supported by Mondriaan Fund and Amarte Fund the artist worked the past six months on a gallery filling interactive sound installation.

While observing the work and moving trough the space you'll eventually find the spot that resonates most with you.

Try it yourself. See you the 15th!

VLAK

Bij Broedplaats Bouw

The exhibition VLAK presents a joint intervention of Erris Huigens and Clary Stolte at the artist run gallery De Bouwput. This intervention/installation will consist of experimental placements of surfaces and shapes in (reaction to) the project space. This creates a visual dialogue between material (both new and reused), surface, form, light and the architecture. The aim is to do this through very minimal interventions. During the installation days, some surfaces will be “replaced”, and the constantly changing light will affect the installation. This process will be photographed for a future publication in collaboration with designer Tijl Schneider. The final outcome will be shown on Sunday 10 April between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Erris Huigens presents his practice under the name Deconstructie. During his trips to abandoned buildings or factory sites, he paints murals. He also takes elements or paintings from his studio and places them on location; vice versa, he takes materials and objects left behind from the site back to the exhibition space. A shadow on the canvas becomes a subject and a blueprint for other paintings. A left behind object becomes the subject within the framework of a presentation. It is used like a tag in graffiti and possibly poses a direct connection to the artist’s roots in subculture. He places and relocates.

The works of Clary Stolte can be best described as ‘object research painting’. Which means a precise research of material properties and behaviour. This leads to minimal (sometimes humoristic), but often extreme interventions. She has stopped using paint, almost entirely, a long time ago. Why use paint when a piece of plastic reflects the light in the room so much better? Since then, her palette consists of diverse materials we know from our daily use: plastic, glue, nicotine, hair gel, shampoo, staples or adhesive tape. Her work is concerned with the symbolic rendering of primary transient elements: light, shadow, volume. Stolte’s works optimistically glitter and reflect. Most of all she wants to communicate the fun and play involved in making her work.

Tijl Schneider is a dedicated Dutch designer in London with a deep appreciation typography. His attention to detail is scary (in a good way). As a son of a contemporary furniture designer, he grew up with a love of clean lines. His design knowledge is second to none and everything that comes off his screen tends to be a beautiful thing.

Magazine Launch Party:

Loose Dog Magazine is releasing their first issue! Come celebrate with us as musicians, performers, dj's, artists and writers come to delight you with a myriad of tantalizing entertainment!

Launch on 22nd of March, 2pm-10pm.

Black Star Tarot takes inspiration from African and Afro-Caribbean ceremonies. Through this body of work, the artist makes references to stories and superstitions from Creole and Cajun culture. Stories about tricksters, shapeshifters, gods that look like men, and men who look like beasts. The Tarot was an ideal platform for the artist to use because it is made for personal interpretation.

The concept is the result of an introspective journey in which the artist, inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, took a deeper dive into the folklore and traditions surrounding his cultural heritage. Black Star Tarot aims to draw a bridge between the symbolism each tarot card represents, and the richness of the traditions of the Black Diaspora.

JJ Wilson is a visual artist from Baton Rouge. As a Black artist, he draws influence from his hometown in Louisiana and its extensive culture – a culture that is rich in the traditions of storytelling and music. From an early age, he has always been interested in the many myths and fables around the world and wanted to explore them. He’s been residing in the Netherlands since 2020, having lived and exhibited work in Shanghai, China previously.

The opening for the exhibition is Friday March 18th from 18:00-22:00, visitation Saturday March 19th 15:00-19:00.

SORO SORO

Bij Broedplaats Bouw

そろそろ soro soro
is a Japanese word which is commonly used to express that it's about time to do something.

And here, S o r o - s o r O  is a place where everyone is invited to try one’s indefinite ideas in front of an audience unofficially.
Nothing has to be perfect nor completed.
We would like to provide an opportunity to experiment and creative exchange.
The concept of  S o r o - s o r O  is greatly influenced by the spirit of l-e,  one of the most worshiped experimental venues in Tokyo, Japan, founded by Takuya and Yukiko Sakamoto.
It seems that there are not enough places to fail nor to try uncertain things in this society even though almost no one could make things perfect from the beginning.
All the rough ideas which had been unrealized or given up due to the lack of opportunities could potentially become something.
